It's eight o'clock in the morning and a chill wind is coming off the water into my face. The water is cold as I run my hand through the choppy waves. Though the middle of July, two more hours of a North Dakota sun will be needed before the sweaters can come off.My brother Allan stows the last of the supplies while I struggle with the canvas tarps. The boat starts to look less naked as the sails fluff out and the cushions are placed around. The far shore hides invisible in the morning fog, ....

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU RUN AGROUND DON'T PANIC -- doing the wrong thing can put you on harder. Now that you're on the bottom, take a minute to evaluate the situation. Check the bilge to be sure that you haven't holed the boat and aren't taking on water. What is the nature of the bottom? If it's soft sand or grass, chances are good that the boat is undamaged, and that if you need to motor or kedge off you won't grind a hole in the boat.Your objective is to get safely into deeper water.Motoring off -- If you have ....

In my search for interesting people I recently decided that I needed to focus on finding more women that have done interesting and unusual things. So off I went and searched on the Internet and sure enough, I stumbled across a website called www.sailingforwomen.com, and I figured that the owner would probably be a woman herself and might have an interesting story to tell.Bingo. Valma Brenton sure has a very interesting resume which includes international travel, managing businesses in Chile and Tazmania, working as a private investigator, divemaster, aquaculture specialist, writer and photographer, to mention just a few of her ....

If you thought that the build-up to Christmas seemed to last for months, then you wont be pleased to hear that the build-up to the Summer Holidays has already begun.
Thick, glossy holiday brochures are thudding through the door so frequently that I hide whenever I hear the postman. Every time I pass the computer I see yet another blue-sky, blue-sea holiday website plastered on the screen and even the children I meet on the way to school are competing over who has the best holiday planned.
But while I daydream of holidays abroad, in a villa, with ....

Spain is part of the European Union and all EU and American nationals can visit the country for a period of no longer than 90 days solely with a passport. EU national can apply for a residency permit if they wish to extend their stay. Non EU nationals can apply for a further 90 day extension. These regulations do not appear to be enforced as far as the yachtsman living aboard is concerned. It is advisable to clear customs if entering Spain for the first time. The vessel's registration papers and the passports of crew members will be required. A ....

One of the most dangerous jobs in the United States Navy is to sit in an aircraft and be launched off the ship by catapault; unless you reach the proper airspeed you fall into the drink. If you fail to eject in time, you die; so although it is extremely dangerous the rules are really simple. Actually fighter pilots often fear the Cold Cat Shot when the steam powered catapult gives you a less than adequate amount of power and your airspeed is insufficient to fly. When taking off an aircraft carrier your aircraft is generally at gross weight; full ....

Now in bankruptcy, Delta will be cutting 9000 jobs. The move is an attempt to save an average of 3 billion dollars. There are many drastic cuts from the top executives down to the rank and file. No one will survive these cuts and in the end it maybe the airline itself which does not make the cut. Twenty-five percent of executives will get pink slips in their Atlanta Office.Delta is planning on also getting rid of nearly 80 aircraft and not renewing 40, which are on lease. Delta is also working with their employees on a profit sharing plan ....

The introduction to stealth aircraft was part luck and part trial and error and the geniuses who brought this technology to us, have boosted our Military Might 10-fold. Stealth has come a long way indeed, but it is not without issue, as there are ways to detect stealth aircraft. For instance there is some vulnerability of easy detection by cell phone wave disruption as the aircraft flies thru them.Indeed at the time of this technology cell phones did not yet exist, as the stealth strategies in aircraft design were engineered for specific frequencies or groups of them. Older radar system ....
