Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania:
Mount Kilimanjaro stands on featureless part of the East African plateau, on the Tanzanian side of the Kenya border near Moshi, side by side with the smaller Mount Meru. Nevado Firura is a snow-capped mountain near Cotahuasi, up on the high plain to the east of Cotahuasi Canyon. It is "only" 18,033 feet high (5498 meters) so it doesn't get the attention like its two neighbors, Nevados Coropuna and Solimana (see my articles on climbing them). It is also farther off the main road to Cotahuasi so it is harder to get to. It is not very prominent; it only rises about 2,000 feet above the high plain on which it sits.I asked about it at some climbing guide agencies in Arequipa and no one knew anything about it, ....

Having hitchhiked many thousands of miles when I was younger, I feel for hitchhikers trying to thumb a ride these days. At least back in my hitchhiking days people still regularly stopped for you. Not so anymore. When my wife and I stop to give someone a ride, we often hear that the poor guy was waiting for a day or two for a ride.Jesus Christ, for example, waited for two-and-a-half days in Gunnison, Colorado, before my wife said, "He looks okay," and we pulled over to give him a ride. Kangaroo Island probably offers the best wildlife viewing opportunities of any location in Australia. The sheer variety of animals and their relative ease with people mean that viewing and photographic opportunities are almost guaranteed. On top of that there are fantastic beaches, great coastal scenery and a wide mix of habitats. For years, visitors to the Grand Canyon have been told to drink lots of water while hiking, and with good reason.Dehydration -- a condition where the body loses too much water due to sweat -- is the most commonly treated illness below the rim of the canyon.During the warmer months, Preventative Search and Rescue rangers (PSAR) hospitalize hikers daily due to dehydration. However in the last few decades we've discovered that too much water can also be a bad thing.Hyponatremia is the condition opposite of dehydration. Galdessa Safari Camp-KenyaGaldessa camp is built on a curve in the Galana River and shaded by tall doum palms. Away from the river the land is hot, dry and dusty with sparse scrub and thorn trees it is refreshing to come to the comfort of Galdessa.There are 8 tent/bandas-basically canvas walls with a thatch roof, a wooden floor in the bedroom and a stone floor in the bathroom.
