Chilling Out!

June 26th, 2008

New words are put together everyday. These words are coined to express fresh and new definitions that younger people think are cool. To chill out is to be with friends have a good time and enjoy company. Most often this is done in front of a television or with a stereo blasting the latest tunes.
There are some cool things to do other than chilling out indoors this summer. America has been deemed the fattest country in the world. We are the only country that hunts for sport. Instead of actually hunting because we are hungry or need food. We are a blessed nation.
I enjoy TV and a good movie. Since gaining a few pounds, I have changed my couch potato habits.
First I take a walk. In doing so I can get to know my neighbors, get some needed exercise and get some fresh air.
Second I pick up a book and read. There are still hundreds of publications that are printed. Everything is not on the internet so I have elected to get from in front of the television and add a daily reading regiment to my day.
If you have children you can play games. Board games were my favorite as a child. There was family interaction and fun. My dad always cheated at Monopoly. I usually beat my brother playing dominoes.
Take yourself or your family to the zoo. Go tot the museum or to the mall. The idea is to get out and go.
On television there are many actors. These actors love their job and they are well paid, For doing something that they like. There are numerous products that are flashed on the screen for you to purchase. So chilling out in front of the TV is a mind numbing event. All of the thinking is being done for you. Advertising works. This is why you see the same ads over and over. So do your own thinking. I know that you can’t totally remove TV out of your life, but try something different. Read a good book and chill out your own way. As with a good diet you can cheat once In a while but not all of the time.
Summer is just about over. School supplies are being stocked at the local stores. Take some time for good golf, good tennis or what ever makes you happy.
