Mount Trashmore in Virginia Beach

Mount Trashmore is used to be a huge dump site for garbage for Virginia Beach’s residents, also, Sometimes New York’s garbage were also sent to this dump site! After few years of garbage accumulations, the site was then full of trash that made the government closed it for service. They came up of an idea to make the dump more useful by building an attraction around it. So they started to kill all the possible bacteria in the entire site by burning or incinerating the garbage. After that process, then they covered with top layer soil for aesthetic purpose. They also planted some trees and grasses to make it more relaxing and fresh atmosphere. There were also some playgrounds, cottages, skateboard parks and “verts,” creek, fishes, jogging/walking tracks, and many more that were added to make it more a hang out place.
The Park is more than a regular park. For instance the skateboard mini-park within the main park, it helps the youth to be in sports rather than in drugs. The jogging/walking tracks on the other hand, helps people to exercise to maintain good health and sometimes relieve stress. Most people spend time with their family in the park because the park has everything you needed in a park. Not to mention the local concerts, movies, exhibits, and other events that are available in some occasions.
The park, Mount Trashmore, is owned and maintained by the city Virginia Beach. It was once the filthiest site, but now it is one of the cleanest parks in the entire city.
